i'm not going to ask individuals to admit if they use them or not but i'm curious what you think about everyone else. while playing online what percentage of people do you think use calculators, poker tracker stats, etc while playing. do you think the percentage changes depending on what limits you're playing? i see other posts discussing if they think it's cheating or not but i'm more curious about how widely used they might be. just curious. thanks.

A friend of mine bought that calculatem program about a year ago. He said it turned him into a calling station, since it just looked at the odds and told him to call/fold based on if he would hit his hand or not. I used to think that there were quite a few who used poker tracker HUDs and the like, but now I'm not so sure. The night the bill passed, I played maybe 5-6 tables on FullTilt and asked everyone what they thought of it. Only one person even knew what I was talking about. The rest were clueless. I'm not saying that it has a direct correllation between that sort of knowledge and use of a program like poker tracker, but I do think that ignorance knows no bounds (for proof of that, read RGP). Chances are most players don't even know what poker tracker is. As far as how I feel about people using it against me...lol...go ahead. I'm playing a prime level where people would be using them (50c/1 and 1/2 NLHE and PLO), but it hasn't seemed to affect me yet. At least not any more than I affect myself. I don't like to pay attention, so the PAHUD did actually help. ------ brewmaster at brewcam dot com "Once in awhile you can get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right" -RH _____________________________________________________________________ RecGroups : the community-oriented newsreader : www.recgroups.com

Higher limit = tighter players usually. I had a prog to tell me how tight players were preflop but there were few players I played enought to make it worthwhile. The ones who I did play regularly, well basically I already knew how tight or loose they were so not much help really, you kinda remember the players who are good!! And those who are bad!! In most situations the computer will tell you what you could easilly work out for yourself. In one on one situationes I sometimes use a calculator to tell me my chance of winning for example I just picked what I thought would be a 50/50 ish hand J8 off suit, and it tells me it is 51.5% which confirms what I already knew. J7 is 49.6% so how close was my guess, which incidently was a hand I might push with in a tourney late one on one huge blinds and maybe only a few more hands if I folded. SO I can guess with in about 1%, the rake (in none toury games is 5%!!) Food for thought!!! So overall I don't think it makes much difference. I currently play unaided other than a starting hand chart which basically tellme what I already know!! Except perhaps on some marginal hands which basically I play depending on the table conditions anyway, by that I mean if I am on a winning streak I tend to play more, if I have been losing then I play less, but I do that anyway unless I have tripped (again). Best advice is to concentrate on the opposition cards (which you can't see) but you can get a feel for how they play and that is how I play. Playing cash no limit at the moment.

If you know someone's flop % and aggressiveness then you can put them on a narrower (or wider) range of hands than you might otherwise. Also, you can look at what it says your own aggressiveness is; this helps to avoid passive play.

Pokertracker is useful, not for identifying the loose idiots who make themselves clear, but for picking out the few players who are actually fairly tight. We can all make notes that read like 'plays every fucking hand, UTG limp then call 5xBB PFR A5o. 2pos, calls UTG raise K4s IDIOT FISH' on a whole load of players, which gives us an idea about their cluelessness. Where Pokertracker comes into its own is in identifying the players on whom it's not so easy to compile notes. For instance, if there is an early position raise, and I see from Pokertracker that the players VPIP has been 18.43 since he's been at the table, then I will be more likely to fold my AJs on the button than if the raiser was a maniac.
