I would have to assume it's all the PP refugees whining because now they don't
hit their 2 outers and see that as a "bad beat"?  ;)

Honestly, I've gone back and forth on the whole RNG thing, and I think when I
first started playing online I just started off on one of those horrendous runs,
and so I never trusted it (first impressions and all).  But for the last 6
months FT at least has proved to be much like live IMHO.  After the rough start,
I ran my starting $500 up to $4500 (and then proceeded to lose it all playing
30/60 like an idiot), but since then have been playing solid and within my
bankroll and have run my new BR up 400% in the past couple of months
playing maybe 10 hours a week (99% cash games).  Yes, there are tough beats, but
nothing that I haven't seen dozens and dozens of times live.

My (maybe naive) thought is that if someone I trust, based on my gut feeling of
their character, time on the scene, etc. (such as Ivey, Lindgren, Ferguson,
Daniel, Doyle, etc., for their respective affiliations), puts their name behind
a site, I'll trust both them and the site until proven otherwise.

They just have so much to lose if the game and the site are not square. (Anyone
seen any Dutch Boyd endorsements lately?)

You'd probably assume right on the Party refugees bit. Most of the
complaints I see are about Stars, which is the biggest site still
accepting U.S. players although Tilt has come pretty far in a short
time. You know your site is successful when there's a bunch of people
complaining here that it's rigged. :)

As to your other point, it seemed that Boyd was pimping UB during his
WSOP bracelet win, but I don't specifically recall any ads or promos
for UB featuring him.

Here's my take:

I moved over to FTP from another site after the legislation, and I have taken an
extraordinary number of bad beats. I cringe  when I move in with what I KNOW is
the best hand just waiting for the bad beat to happen. It's eerie - it's as if I
can feel when the bad beat is going to come.

I KNOW it's random, and I KNOW the feeling of impending doom is an illusion,
based on conditioning. I took 2 semesters of probability and statistics in
college, and i know that what I've been experiencing is basic variance, and my
feeble mind is just trying to make sense of it.

The human mind can't deal with random - we try to find patterns that don't
exist. Vegas thrives on this. Business at the roulette tables took a quantum
leap when they started posting the previous results on those scoreboards. My
brother-in-law is a chemical engineer that has an IQ that's off the charts, and
he plays the slots. He insists that there are "hot machines", and that payouts
aren't random. If someone of his intelligence would say something that
ridiculous, what chance do we normal people have?
