So much for any pretense to Zen monk status. I completely flipped out over this one. It was only 9:1, but it took a couple seconds to sink in that I hadn't won it, since I don't often lose to a "runner-runner boat suckout" like this. This was literally 30 seconds after bubbling in a SNG because a complete fucking moron called an all-in with QT (I had JJ) and sucked out on me, so the one-two punch KO'ed my equanimity. Anyway, I suck at poker until I can take this and worse and smile. I've tried reading and contemplating Zen of Poker, but haven't achieved serenity. Obviously you did nothing wrong in the hand, but your opponent really didn't either. For all he knew, you had JJ or QQ and were pushing your overpair. As far as the second hand goes, I need one point of clarification. The HH says tier two Sit N Go, does that mean it's a shootout or satellite? If so, your opponent's call (while still not a good call) could make a bit more sense if he's trying to gamble to get some chips. The stacks were all roughly equal, and no one had more than 16-17 big blinds, so it's getting to the crapshoot stage anyways. On the bubble of a regular sit n go, it's a horrible call.

If you just assume anything Morphy says is sarcastic, that usually works. I don't see any reason to think he broke with his tradition of biting sarcasm. I can't see anything particularly deserving of sarcasm about calling 6.7% of my stack preflop to get all-in on the flop as a 9:1 favorite. I wouldn't make the same call out of position with a small pair for much more, but for what I had to call and who was in the pot, and with a pretty good idea what he had (a big pair or AK) and what he'd do after the flop (jam into my bet if it was the pair), I think it would have been an error to fold. Once the set hits, it plays itself. >Obviously you did nothing wrong in the hand, but your opponent really >didn't either. For all he knew, you had JJ or QQ and were pushing your >overpair. No, he didn't. I was still a 9:1 favorite in the hand when it all went in, though, but he didn't play it horribly. >As far as the second hand goes, I need one point of >clarification. It was even worse, because it paid three places almost exactly the same. A $75 token to the first two and $66 to number three. These are actually a pretty good value. But a better value were the $26 18 seat SNGs that FTP did away with, another thing I'm pissed off about. Anyway, bubbling was a huge fuckup which is why I didn't expect a completely moronic call like that with utter garbage. Many bad calls "you want." In this one, it was a pure murder-suicide. This one set me up to flip out over the one 30 seconds later. I am trying to practice not giving a fuck when I get sucked out on, and I think if I can manage to do that, it will have positive effect on the rest of my life, i.e. flipping out about transient shit that has no long term significance whatsoever. I don't want to repress anger about things like this. I don't want to feel it at all. Tougher than it sounds, and I've been a miserable failure at it so far.
