I started the thread on playing AK, and I appreciate the answers. I have been
playing AK like a big pair, and going broke a lot with it - one hand I would
have played differently comes to mind -

Blinds 25/50. MP raises to 200. On the button, I call. SB makes it 1000, MP
calls, I fold. They were holding QQ and KK. Glad i dumped it. Normally, I would
have called or pushed.

Good to hear AK is soooo over played by soooo many.
It really is the root annd cause of the birth of the "Arlo" and the Royal Arlo"
as a teaching tool.

Go to groups.google.com and examine their search tools. This will help
you to get past the basics, like vocabulary, and then you can form more
advanced questions, which are absolutely appropriate for this group.

Cheers
John

(BTW even though you are using a web interface, this is the USENET. And
there are plenty of tools out there that may help you better).

I will get back to you.  I am on heavy meds right now.
Hell I would of guessed everyone here knew the "Arlo" and "Royal Arlo"

Try a google search and see if it comes up.  (I never have doen the search but
it might come up)

I always thought the 64 stuff came from Omaha 8.

No not at all.
It started years ago trying to teach a few people about hand values and was
really used to show AK is not as strong as most think it is.
As an example many will call a big raise with AK but would fold two 3s or
someone calling after the flop with AK that would not call in that spot with an
under pair.
Or calling late with AK in a tight game with 4 or 5 people all ready calling a
raise or two but would not consider calling with a low pair etc.  ( so many
people don't understand adjustments in a tight game and also the decreased worth
in a tight game when there are many callers/raisers ahead of you.)
hell I can show pretty clearly why raising with 6 4 on the button is correct in
a tight game with 4 or more callers/raisers already in. Play with pokerstove a
little and it will start becomming clear.  Just pick hands you would call with
in a tight game per seat then gvie the button the 6 4 and run numbers adjust and
rerun a few times.

Good for you. AK is not such a powerhouse hand, especially with a lot of
chips behind. Calling if you have position is fine. When out of
position, though, I still prefer to reraise to end the hand (whther with
AK or a hand like TT)
