As any one who has not been living in a cave knows, the Ohio State football team is currently undefeated and ranked number one in the country. What you might not know is that the Ohio State men's basketball team is also currently undefeated and ranked (in at least one poll) number one in the country. I wanted to get this posted before Ohio State plays North Carolina on the road tonight. Irish Mike

It's definitely good times for the Big 10. Michigan will kill whoever the BCS throws at them in the Rose Bowl and Ohio State will steamroll USC. As for basketball, we are once again getting killed by the ACC. Hopefully we'll get 7 or 8 into the big dance and make it an all Big 10 finals. ------- looking for a better newsgroup-reader? - www.recgroups.com

Well before you make a bet, you need to know who will be playing. If, and granted it's a big if, UCLA some how upsets USC this Saturday, then it will be Florida playing Ohio State. Assuming, of course, that Florida beats Arkansas on Saturday. If both USC and Florida lose their final game, then Ohio State will end up playing Michigan. As an Ohio State fan, rooting for them to win the national championship, I would prefer to see them play: 1. Florida 2. USC 3. Michigan Irish Mike "jackiepaper" <43081177@recpoker.com > wrote in message news:1164928861$914235@recpoker.com... > you give me the spread and i'll put 30 on it when game time comes mike > > On Nov 29 2006 8:09 PM, Irish Mike wrote: > >> Talk is cheap. First, I do remember Jerry Lucas and second, there is absolutely nothing wrong with Ohio State's athletic reputation. They currently have two of the best teams and coaches in the country (Tressel, football and Matta, basketball). If you want to talk about damaged athletic reputations, try focusing on Miami. savor those rankings while you can, cause both may fall. they are about the 10th best team in basketball and have a football defense that can be picked apart. michigan's offense isnt even close to as good as usc's, and they put up a helluva lot of points on the buckeyes. we'll see, though. should be a great national title game. Ohio State has one of the best defenses in the country, which is amazing considering they lost nine defensive starters last year - most going to the NFL. They are the best team in college football and I seriously doubt USC will "pick them apart". In fact, USC will probably get their asses kicked. OSU beats USC by double-digits, easily. In fact, if USC wasn't the darling of the BCS, they wouldn't even be the team getting the shot. Losing to an unranked team? Shit, their most impressive wins are against overrated two-loss teams (ND and Arkansas). You talk about OSU's defense, but I notice you don't mention USC's defense?!? The defense that let freakin' Notre Dame roll up over 400 yards of offense last week... yeah, that's strong D. As a point of comparison, UM allowed only 245 yards of total offense (only 4 yards on the ground), when they played *at* Notre Dame; against UM, ND went 2-14 on third downs. Against USC, ND went 7-18 on third downs, and rolled up 404 yards of total offense, including 130 yards on the ground. What Troy Smith will do both on the ground and through the air (don't forget about the excellent *group* of OSU receivers... note the plural, as opposed to the USC one-pony wide-out show) to USC will make this one of the most *uninteresting* NC games in recent memory. Dude, I remember when USC lost to unranked Oregon State, and everyone wrote them off in terms of the BSC championship game. What a freakin' strange system, eh? Less than a month later, on the strength of OTHER TEAMS LOSING, they are suddenly back in third, waiting to play the winner of the *real* national championship game (UM/OSU)... I've said it before, I'll say it again... must be nice to play the real championship game on yer home turf in front of 90,000 screaming, raving, foaming-at-the-mouth Buckeyes. Take the top eight teams in the country and put Michigan and OSU on opposite brackets. They'd be playing each other for the championship and it would be a pick'em game on a neutral field. Boise State, Florida, Arkansas, USC, Notre Dame, Nebraska/Oklahoma winner, ACC and Big East champs would all get chewed up along the way no matter if they played Michigan or OSU. ____________________________________________________________________ * kill-files, watch-lists, favorites, and more.. www.recgroups.com
