Firefly was a terrific show. Fox fucked it when it first aired though. I
remember watching the premiere and being utterly confused about what was going
on so I stopped watching it. A year ago, I got the DVDs from Best Buy when they
were on sale for like fifteen bucks because I thought "Buffy and Angel were
awesome shows, I'm sure Joss Whedon didn't shit the bed with this one. I'll
give it another shot." So I pop in the first DVD and start watching the pilot.
I'm following along great, totally into the show and the characters, forgetting
why I didn't watch it originally (besides the fact that it was on Fridays), when
I realized - the fuckups at Fox didn't show the pilot! They started with the
2nd episode which for this show was monumentally dumb. The pilot introduces all
the characters/situations/conflicts perfectly and hooks you in. Fox started
with the 2nd episode where everything has already been established and you have
NO clue what is going on. In addition to that, they showed episodes out of
order, which for a Joss Whedon show is fucking ridiculous. This is the guy that
basically redefined the hour long drama by emphasizing multiepisode and even
multiseason arcs that you cannot show out of order.
In conclusion, fucking awesome show, get the DVDs and then watch Serenity. Fuck
Fox.

Reminds me of the second season of Monk (not on Fox), where surely many
viewers knew nothing about the characters. Wasn't till the third show that a
new viewer would get a clue, if they stayed on board that long.

Sci-Fi has terrific marathons. A month or so ago they had an entire
afternoon of Dr. Who episodes. I'm waiting for them to run all the "La
Femme Nikita" shows back-to-back. They haven't said they'd be doing that,
but I can always hope.
