I agree, this guy has a great personality. Just poor judgement. I don't
blame him for turning down the 3rd offer of $216k because the board was so
much in his favor, but after that he was listening to his "party buddies"
rather than thinking for himself. It was like a trainwreck when he turned
down the last 6 figure offer with only one 6 figure amount left on the
board.

I've always said that as soon as any offer I received was over or above
$200k unless ALL 6 big amounts were still in play, I'd be done. I guess I'm
just not greedy enough to turn down $200,000 (pre tax) for doing nothing.

His friends were even worse. They all went on tilt when the 218k went down to
115k, and just donked it down to 10 bucks. What morons. In these games, utilty
function has to play a part in one's decisions.

Well, it was evident that not-so-many thousands could make a considerable
change in his life - and his sisters.

And I have brandished the word 'utility' here and elsewhere very often.

But you do realize, I reckon, that in strict face value terms only the last
big 'deal' offered was even remotely close to expectation?

(Unless from the management side if it is cheating.)

I actually felt SICK when he turned down the last 6 figure offer and "went for
it". What a fucking MORON. His poor sister, who would know what the hell was
going on in terms of how he needed it vs. his party friends, was trying SO hard
to get him to accept, and honestly, if I was her, I would have slapped his
friends SILLY to get them to understand the value of what was being offered to
him and have them encourage him to Deal as well. Maybe then, he would have
listened.

I think he did get what he deserved, he was way too greedy, when I heard the
last figure of 147K, I was so RELIEVED, thought WHEW, now he'll take the deal
and would have been justified in turning down the 75K, then the 85K, but
Nooooooo he wanted to go for the 500K. Silly, silly boy.

But yes, great personality, everyone loved him at the end and could feel the
pain of seeing that 500K. Again, I felt sick, LITERALLY, I had to change the
channel.

Ever  occur to anyone here that this show is just BS- period?  My and I used  to
watch the show bc she would see several people from her acting classes in LA on
the show.

One day here in NYC the daily news had a whole article on a young lady that was
an aspiring actress going on the show in the next week.

Also, look at what these people do for a living! Really think someone that makes
35-50K a yr is going to EVER turn down 200K? 100K?150K?

I think they get caught up in the moment as the center of attention. The
poor guy last night was having a blast, especially when he got off to such
a good start. His sister was the only person that was able to escape the
moment and keep her sanity. His drinking buddies should be ashamed of
themselves. When he was down to three cases and turned down the $150K I
just laughed. He was clearly not thinking straight.

while i dont disagree with people being caught up in the moment, let's face it-
You make 35K a year and you are looking over at your family or thinking of them
and their future at the same time someone is literally offering you 7-10 yrs
salary for you, i doubt you say "no deal" and if you do  you should have your
head checked.

Really?

I use utility frequently, but let me posit the obvious.

If you were sure the situation were honest would you or would you not bet
$150,000 on a 1/3 chance of getting $500,000?

It is actually rather close straight up, only 11% or so what your stake
'ought' to be on a fair bet.

I'm not sure what I'd do. I probably would have taken the $250K when they
offered it. If I was in this guy's shoes, however, I would definitely
take the $150K and move out of my sister's house.

ok.

It just occurred to me that we don't know how much the guy owes.

The boob last night that blew it all said he was self employed, and IIRC the
first guy they had leading out on the Thanksgiving episode was also self
employed... and they weren't hte only ones.

I think the biggest problem the guy last night had was that usually the
friends and family are the voice of reason that tell them not to be a
dumbass and blow it all... but the guy last night had his buddy there just
whackin' the weed and shouting "NO DEAL" even on that final offer before he
opened the case with $500K in it... and he didn't seem to care what his
sister said, who was the only one saying "take the offer!" (although you
could see it in Howie's face, he was definitly thinking the same thing and
had that "oh you soon-to-be-poor dumb shmuck" look when the guy closed the
lid to the button)
