What's with the creepy home page on Google today?? It looks like a
graphic for a Stephen King film or something ( think Children of the
Corn ).

Did they get their seasons confused or something?

I thought Halloween was over more than 6 weeks ago....

Those people must be weird.....

It's so hard to know if someone is trying to be funny or if they truly are
ignorant.

Hey jam,

Not trying to be funny - it just seemed way out of place to me, like
playing funeral dirges during a wedding or something. I admit I did
not let me mouse sit over the picture or try to click on it - so my bad
on not checking into the origin of the painting.

Maybe I'm just not the kind of techno-nerd that sees the relevance of
celebrating some obscure artist's birthday in the middle of December
with a portrait that looks like it is straight out of a Halloween
horror film in the middle of the Christmas season. I would
understand it more if the portrait they were showing had something to
do with Christmas, winter, or something relevant to the current season.

Kind of like the genuises that are releasing the movie "Black
Christmas" on Christmas Day - I mean who the hell watches a gory horror
film on Christmas Day?

"The Scream" is generally considered to be the second best-known painting in the
world, behind only the Mona Lisa.

It's image was also frequently satirically associated with the 2004 Bush
re-election campaign. As a matter of fact, I have the bumper sticker on the
windshield of my motorcycle ("Bush Again?")

Maybe you were living in a tent in a swamp when it was stolen a few years ago,
and made pretty much every newspaper and news broadcast in the world until it
was recovered?

He's not an obscure artist and it is a very famous painting. While I am
not suggesting you should be familiar with the painting, I will suggest
you thinnk about why google would post such a picture and investigate b4
asking a question which shows your obvious lack of culture. Not that
culture is particularly important. Unfortunately your post makes me think
you live in a trailer park, because I only live in a one bedroom
apartment, and I could figure it out pretty easily. I know, there I go
being mean again. Sorry.

Of course, if one live in a trailer park, the existential angst expressed in the
painting is probably even more relevant.

One of the best things I've seen is the Scream as an inflatable bop clown,
one of those things you punch and it comes back up like a Weeble.

While I can understand what you're saying, I think your reasoning all starts
back to your one word "obscure". Munch is hardly obscure, or even close to it,
if you know anything about art.

Ask our resident art expert, John Harkness, he'll tell ya!!

I totally agree with this thought. Icky.

I'm a bit of an art nerd myself, and Edvard Munch is far from obscure!

Munch isn't obscure. "The Scream" is one of the world's best known
paintings, depicting a 3-6 LHE player after suffering his 10th straight
suck-out.

Are you kidding? A 3-6 limit player will start screaming after one
suckout.

Ah yes. But to get that existential angst, the sense of absolute
despair, the distortion of space, the hideous colors - that takes more
than one bad beat.

ROTFL! Though some might disagree, and feel it actually portrays a
Stars tournament player watching his beautiful KK go down for the
dozenth time to an ace-rag player who hits his ace on the river.
