Subject: OT Gift Card Theft

This might be helpful information to have for the gift-giving season:

Well the crooks have found a way to rob you of your gift card balance. If
you buy Gift Cards from a display rack that has various store cards you
may become a victim of theft. Crooks are now jotting down the card numbers
in the store and then wait a few days and call to see how much of a
balance THEY have on the card.

Once they find the card is "activated", and then they go online and start
shopping.

You may want to purchase your card from a customer service person, where
they do not have the Gift Cards viewable to the public.

I thought most gift cards had that scratch-off stuff on the back to keep things
like this from happening.  You scratch it off with a penny (like on an instant
lottery ticket) and it reveals your number.  Hmm...maybe that's just Wal-Mart.

Makes sense. But they would be too easy to catch because the stuff they are
buying are delivered to one, or at most a few, addresses.

Having known scammers of this ilk, I would be willing to bet you they are
staying in fleabag motel, receiving their packages and then moving down the
street to another fleabag motel. This is the oldest trick in the book for
this type of scam.
