I've been close to Puggy (and friends with Doyle and Chip) - but have
NEVER been involved in any cheating or colluding with them - or anyone
else - in poker. And there is no way Puggy (or anyone else) could have
told you anything else. No way. He could only tell you that we're
friends and that he's loaned me money.
You know I stayed broke for 20 years because I bet sports. That's no
secret. I have borrowed money from Puggy on many occasions - and
whatever he's done, I'll always love the guy for helping me out when I
needed it - and believe me, he has done that.
I did write a "song" about him ("Puggy, Puggy Pearson, King of the
Gambling World" - sung to the tune of Davy Crocket). I knew he would
love it - which he did. Puggy would never deny he's done a lot of
stuff (about whatever he could do or get away with) along his career -
but he can NEVER say I cheated or colluded with him or anyone else in
poker - because I haven't.
You know I've always liked you, too, Russ, and I do know how good you
can play poker. I also know you're on a mission - one I might not
agree with, but I know your resolve and that you are going to do what
you think you have to do. However, when you even mention that I might
be a thief or cheat at poker, you are totally wrong and that is a sure
way to detract from any credibility you might have. Do yourself a
favor and don't suggest that again.
I am in the public eye in the poker world and I do care if you say I'm
a thief or a cheat in poker. I'm not (and never have been).
