I found this interesting.
I just read an article( and off hand I don't remember which poker magazine
it was in) arguing how the use of profanity in online chat is bad for the
reputation of poker. Basically, the more "we" can do to better the somewhat
sketchy reputation to which poker players and the industry itself stills
maintains in the non poker playing public, the better.

Then I read the opening line in the editors letter ( Michael Caselli) in the
December issue of Bluff...

"Everyone be calm, its not as fucked up as it appears !"

This just struck me as not quite right.
Somehow, this just didn't seem like something an editor should be saying.
Over the course of the last week or so I have heard quite a number of
players make similar statements.

In the last few years there has been a trend, mainly among the younger
crowd, that the use of profanity in unexpected places is a mark of the
new sophistication. We see it commonly on TV now that people know that
they can get away with using words like 'ass' or 'friggin.' When
offered the opportunity, the tactic is to make the low-class choice.

This kid is using a cheap shot to try to appear trendy or avant garde
and give him an edge with the some players in the battle to attract
readers. Too bad. When I read that issue I was impressed with the
fact that a lot of the articles actually had something to say. Take a
look at Phil Gordon's article. The profile article on Ferguson had
enough of a slant to make it interesting. Most profile articles in
other mags are the usual run of 'who cares?' type questions (how old
were you when you started playing? what's your favorite game? tell us
a bad beat story. etc.)

I haven't felt that way about a poker mag. in a long time. They seem
to all be trying to find ways to continue saying the same things over
and over while scrambling to seem fresh.

Another example of power structures continually wanting to gentrify poker for
their own purposes.

seedless

How do you get a sweet eighty year old lady to say the word "F**K"
Have another sweet eighty year old lady say the word "BINGO"
