This is not a hand blah, just a simple question. Past 7 tournaments I have played on PS I have been all in late in the event only to have someone catch 1 or 2 outer to beat me. Twice I flopped top set to get beat by quads one was runner runner. This is not real poker it is a game all of its own. The games is not fixed, at least in the since that PS picks the winner, but in fact that no one will convince me that shuffle and deal is truly random. One of the major concepts of this game is to get your money in with the best hand. I am in with the best in fact with massive edges. Most of my play is live, granted not as many hands. But what has been happening on PS is not even close to what experence live. I just do not think it is profitable to try and adjust to do better on PS. That kind of adjustment would be damaging to my live play. I play small stakes online and 200.00-400.00 buyin NLHE live. The games are not really compatable, but the general rules of probability should be the same. One more thing I have notice, I don't seem to have the totally insane suckouts on two other sites I play on. Guess this is just a bitch, but I am really starting to question PS and what it possibly could do to damage my game. McSock

Lets say on every hand there is someone who is only 20% to make the hand. This means that 1 out of 5 hands they hit. Or twice a round. The problem is that on Pokerstars, as many places online, there is MUCH more bluffing online than offline. There are many many more calls online than offline, and it tends to pay, because of the large number of bluffs, there are MORE people making bad calls against good hands online than off. This means that there are more bad beats. As long as you have people that make aggressive overbets on nothing, there will be the callers. Offline you do not see this behavior nearly as much. This means there are a lot more folders/believers. There are simply not as many bad beats. For cash play, reload and get your chips back. In tourneys, you need to reconsider how to play small stacks. You are not going to get the same respect, which means that you will be beat more often, and being beat with a small stack means that you are out. Another consideration, is to not play as tight, so that you can avoid small stack play. Online play is often much different than offline play. Play the metagame, the online players are making mistakes, adjust your game to the mistakes. You can win. Identify the mistakes and take advantage.

A one in five chance does not mean that it will occur one out of every five times. Wouldn't it be nice if we could just count how many times the favored hand holds up and then fold anything, knowing that it's time for the donk to suck out. No, a one in five chance means that the chances of it occurring are very slim compared to the chances of it NOT occurring. In other words, in the short run, one should see a 20 percenter hit far fewer times than one out of five. Point is, if the suckouts are occurring at or very close to their statistical average ALL THE TIME - as they seem to do on Poker Stars - something is very much a miss. >The problem is that on Pokerstars, as many places online, there is MUCH >more bluffing online than offline. There's plenty of idiots bluffing their any two in card rooms all around the world. They are the people who make playing poker a very profitable game. Why? Because in real life, hands with a 20% chance of sucking out don't suck out at anywhere near the 20% rate! And they shouldn't. Like I said, a hand that's 20% to suckout DOES NOT MEAN THAT IT DOES IT EXACTLY ONE OUT OF EVERY FIVE TIMES. It means that, in all likelihood, it's not going to happen. When it does, it's rare. And from the beginning of time to infinity, it might average out to somewhere around 20% but don't count on it. If it did, there would not be "randomness" in card playing. It would be very much not random if the numbers matched up close to their statistical odds. Blast away, true believers. Foxtrot

Ah, so by the norm you meant something more scientific than just my troll dribble. Perhaps you could post a statistically significant sample and show me the "norm" you speak of. I have been keeping stats on my tournament bustout hands since Oct 11, 2006. I log my average % expected win rate when all the money goes in. On average after 283 all-ins, I have been a 58.3% favorite to win on average yet I am only winning 50.32% of the time. The odds against running this bad or worse is 285-1 against. (MS Excell, BINOMDIST) I have 142.5 wins out of 283 all ins. (I count ties as .5 win .5 loss) I am a full 22.5 wins below expectation. Amazingly, I am up about 2k during this run, with average buyin of about $40. I could easily be up 3-5 times that had I had a win rate equal to my average 58.3% advantage when all the money went in. With an allin average of 58.3%, I should be 4.64 times more likely to win a tournament than by pure chance. But after 600 tournaments, I have only won one. ( a $135 buyin, 42 player winner take all for a $12,500 WSOP seat package)

Correction.... I meant to say, I have been tracking my tournament ALL-INS, not just bustouts. If I or my opponent is all in, I then freeze the action, look at the cards, and determine who is ahead. I then record the results. Doing this I find, that when I get all my money in, I am on average a 58.3% to 41.7% favorite, yet I am only winning 50.32% of the time. Sorry for the confusion. xyious wrote: > On Dec 4 2006 2:01 PM, Red Oak wrote: > > I have been keeping stats on my tournament bustout hands since Oct 11, > > 2006.
