Subject: If you think it's all luck

Try one of these experiments, at stakes or buy-ins that you can well
afford:
Pick an event where you generally do well sober, having played in it
for a lot of sessions. Now play in it for an equal number of sessions
(or until you give up on it) drunk or stoned.
Pick a few tournaments on weekday evenings where you did well for two
or three years, often winning and almost always finishing in the money.
Now, have your work situation or your living situation change so that,
instead of getting up at 7am you are getting up at 5am. Try to keep
playing in those tournaments and see how well you do.
I haven't tried the first but I am giving up on the second. Weekend
poker for me until my hours chance, which will probably be when I
retire. Which will, thank goodness, be soon.
Going to Las Vegas this weekend but will usually be at Foxwoods.

Howdy, Will. It's pretty interesting all the factors that can screw up one's
poker game. You just can't have "issues" in the background and play your
best. It doesn't matter if it's not enough sleep, problems with the spouse,
financial issues on your mind, or whatever.
Keeping a good schedule and everything in order isn't absolutely required to
win, but most people will probably notice what you do: it sure can help.
I think your idea to go weekends only is a good one. For a year or two in
the 1990's, I played for real money on Friday nights only (the rest was IRC
poker) and it was getting to the point where people would openly question
whether I ever lost. I remember clearly that the routine fed on itself. I'd
be hungry to play, interested in playing, fully ready to play, and I could
see everyone around me in that "play every day" rut that people get into and
can't get out of.

Noooo, it's just a client's Christmas party. I told him he didn't have to go
since my daddy will be here and he can be my date, but he insisted. (wink wink).
Turns out we will be in Vegas on Friday, although I don't think Fell knows it

I've had AA/QQ/AK/AA/KK in a row once, in an online 200+15 MTT...guess what, I
never got action once...the buggers all folded preflop to a standard raise. Yet
I busted out when my middle set of 7s ran into a top set of Js....
