So apparently I was actually a favorite. I've been trying the big bet
approach, and it worked this time. Bad play or no??? I called preflop in
late position with the suited connector for pot odds like all the pros say
to. Or is this just one of those that will play out this way no matter
what?

Why would you ever play call a raise, and a (small) reraise with 8d7d if
you're not ready to push on that flop?

Here is where you got lucky.  Am I missing something, or are they really that
stpuid in 2/4?  AA in the SB, action before it got to him: a limper in EP,  a
min raise from EP/MP, 2 other callers in LP, so $32 plus 6 in the blinds makes
it $38 in the pot, and he chooses to raise to $20 with aces when out of
position?

Your luck had nothing to do with the way the cards fell, but everything to do
with some idiot thinking aces cannot be beaten, and invited you all into the pot
to crack it and stack him cheaply.

Surely any sane player would have at least pot it preflop, hoping the EP limper
or the min raiser had a big hand and stack off.  Even if they didnt, could you
have called a pot re-raise?  I very much doubt it, so you would not have had a
chance to see the flop and get lucky.

The answer is the retarded one was sittig in the SB, both for pricing people
into the pot cheap(ish)ly, and going to war on such a flop after not defining
hands properly when he had a chance to do so preflop.

I like the result.

This is a nothing raise. The goofy minraise kind of puts me off, but
I'm on the button. My only real concern is that the limper reraises
or one of the blinds wakes up with a hand.

>Stylistic adds $400
>DocYarosh raises to $20

Whoops. That probably happened. Unless this guy is particularly
addicted to the "squeeze play," he probably has a hand. I speculatively
put him on a big pair. I wouldn't have called if I knew this was going
to happen, but since it has, I have to play. And my call closes out
the action, forcing the issue if I was thinking of disregarding the pot
odds and implied odds and getting out of this dangerous situation.

Well, there's my flop. I'm going apeshit unless given
a hell of a reason not to.

And this isn't it. I'm all in! And I bet I'm a favorite to his
probable big pair.

How can you push with top pair, a gut shot straight draw, a flush draw AND
a gut shot straight flush draw? What kind of fish play is this?
Actually, it is the correct play. Even if you put him on an over pair,
like you found out in your analysis, you are a favorite. So push here and
you might get fold equity too if he puts you on a set.
