The last time I was in LV I started to go to the poker room at Horseshoe, but
only got about 20 foot into the building before just turning around and leaving
the building because of the stench.

What's the smoking policy in the poker rooms, in particular tournaments.  How
tolorable is the smoke situation (I'm very intolerant) and do they have
non-smoking hotel rooms that don't stink?

I think you might get a little stray smoke if you end up at a table
near the door for the tournaments. They allow smoking a few feet past
the rail in the cash game, so that can be a problem.

The non-smoking rooms in "the tower" are mostly OK. I recommend you
insist on a room there as opposed to "the old section".

Thanks.  I'm just going to be there for two days,, and am supposed to play in a
tournament.  But if the smoke in the tournament area is too much I can always
just renege on that event.  But if I have any doubt about the room I will have
to drive rather than fly.  I'm getting comped a room so if the room is
unacceptable I can always just find another one if I have a car with me.

It's starting to sould like flying might work out okay.

Drive to Vegas? Just so you can get another room? Take a taxi.

I might drive anyway, and stop a day or two in Alberqurque and stop in Redneck,
AZ to buy some clothes.   I usually drive when I go to LV.  It's just that I
might make some other, unrelated plans that will make flying preferable.

Haven't read responses yet, so I'm sure someone's already answered but felt like
being a part of this thread anyways.

There are only a few poker rooms that still allow smoking. The Boulder Stations
and that one with Sam in the name,....damn, can't remember the casino...hmm.
Also, Plaza allows smoking during graveyard as does Orleans (last time I was
there).

However, at Binion's, even though it's smoke free now, I wouldn't stay in the
rooms if you're that affected by it. It's still pretty bad.

Glad to help. : )

Poker Rooms:

The stated policies of all the poker rooms in Las Vegas, that I have
seen, are that smoking is not allowed. I would imagine that there are
exceptions but I never saw one and I have been reading about LV poker
rooms for our recent trip. The reality depends on how close smokers can
get and the isolation of the room.

The MGM Grand: Awful room and there are several openings into it that
could let smoke in. However, I didn't notice any in the brief time we
played there.

The Sahara: Not well-isolated and you will get more smoke than you
would want to tolerate. We enjoyed the place but I am not intolerant of
smoke or not VERY intolerant.

The Venetian: Very well-isolated, as well as being beautiful, roomy and
well-run. Probably not long for this world, though.

Riviera: Haven't been there since July 2005, when it was opening. At
that time, it was open to the casino floor and smoky.

Hotels:

We stayed in a Marriott Residence Inn last weekend and it was
smoke-free and our room had no evidence of being smoked in.

I stayed at the Riviera in July of 2005 and the hotel stank of smoke in
several places but not in my room.

Gary,

They don't allow smoking in the poker room or tournament area. People go
out the side door. But you can probably still smell the smoke from the
casino. It's not ventilated like most.

I would like to shake your hand and buy you dinner.

Best of luck.

The Poker "Room" is physically the same as it has been for year. When
I was there in November, both the ring game and tournament areas were
non-smoking. However, the main aisle from the Hotel check-in/Valet
parking area goes right past one side of the "room" and that aisle is
NOT non-smoking.

I can't tell you about the hotel rooms, I have only stayed there once
and my wife is a smoker.

If you want to have the least exposure to smoke, I suggest you enter
the poker room through the entrance near the corner of the valet
parking area (not the hotel entrance, but the one on the street the
intersects Fremont).

There were some other "aroma" issues the last time I was at Binions,
but they seemed to be coming from outside the casino, emitting from the
general direction of the Fremont Street sewer area. Not sure if they
fixed that or not.

Yet you seem to have no problem with the stench of liberalism.

I don't believe there are any smoking poker rooms in Las Vegas.

A friend of mine did mention playing in the SnGs O'Sheas because it is
the only place you can smoke a cigar and play poker. (The poker room
there is located halfway inside and outside the building near Flamingo
and the Strip.

Last time I was in Las Vegas I was struk by the absense of smoke in the
entire city. The recent renocvations of Caesars and a lot of the other
older casinos must have included quite a budget for smoke eaters.
Perhaps the Sharper Image made them a deal they couldn't refuse on a
bunch of Ionic Breezes.

So to summarize the smoking policy is "None" and has ben that way for
about the last 3 years.

Good Luck in Vegas!
