Subject: Hitting the wall

Yesterday after about a 3 month layoff, I decided to play a little online
poker.  $10 rebuy on UB.  From the 2nd to the 3rd level I stayed in the top 5
chip stacks. Starting level 4, I had around 42k.  I floated between 35k and 45k
till the end of level 4.  Once that break was over, I just couldn't gain any
ground.  I didn't take any bad beats, I just couldn't win a pot.  With 18 to go,
my table was super aggressive.  If I attempted to make a move, someone would jam
for over half stack and I couldn't justify a call. I managed to finish in 9th
place, but I really feel like considering my stack with about 40 players left I
had a good shot at taking the whole thing down.
I guess my question is when your running good, what happens when your hands dry
up and your with alot of aggressive players?  It's like my stack reached a
plato, and I could never get to the next level.

Handing your stack over to a dead Greek philosopher will not help you win.

Newton was not Greek, nor was he a philosopher.

"Newton was not Greek, nor was he a philosopher."

True, but he did invent a hell of a good cookie.

Thanks for the link, that was interesting reading. I guess my statement
would be more correct if I said Newton was not an ethical philosopher,
which is really what I meant. I consider Newton more a scientist and
mathmatician.

It sounds like you made some moves at an aggressive table, while you
were running bad, with a still viable stack. I council patience here.
Every time you make a move and get stuffed, you rob yourself of 3
rounds of play or more. You probably robbed yourself out of an entire
blind level. Wait until you get some cards, and only make moves against
weakness that you detect. Harrington say that the one thing tournament
players cannot lack is patience. There's always time to make moves when
your stack is less than 10 BB's.
