I have never been involved in a tourney where there was so much hating going on.
A lot of it being directed at me too, is it because I'm female??

I don't understand why a lot of players are like that, and I know that some of
you here even go that route, but good lord, can't we just all get along and play
poker????

OK, rant over.

PS, Tourney #36700983, $50/$5, 450 started, 24 left, ITM.

Generally it's because someone plays badly.

i've been called an idiot (and worse) so many times for pushing every
single hand on the bubble of a SNG as huge chipleader with large blinds.
and you can't tell me that's bad play.

actually it's completely retarded for anyone that can hurt me to call.

ok, i'm gonna try and put it into small and simple words so you can follow.
let's assume following situation. 4 players left in a single table
tournament, 3 paid (it's what we call the bubble). now i have a stack of
6000 chips, you have a stack of 5000 chips, and the other two players have
stacks of 1000 chips (sorry about the long sentence). now even if i push
every single hand, how many hands should you call with ?

What I mean to say is that any analysis of poker that pretends that
all your opponents are rational is lacking something.

yes but most people aren't completely retarded.
when you're about 95% to make the money, why would you call with ace rag ?
either way, even if i get called with some sucky hand i have a decent
chance of sucking out, generally around 40%, and if i do i'm very likely
to win the whole thing, if i don't i have as many chips as the 2
shortstacks and have a 2/3 chance of making the money anyway.

They don't have to be completely retarded to do things that are
theoretically incorrect, Alex.

>when you're about 95% to make the money, why would you call with ace rag ?

You're asking the wrong question. Why would someone call with a pair
of 4s? Why would they call with KQ? Why with AT? You're going in
*every time*, Alex. Give it enough goes round and the guy will be
hanging out for something he can call you with, whether it's
profitable or not.

Hmm. I dunno. I'll have to think about whether the gain in equity from
stealing blinds is worth as much as you lose when he calls and you're
a big dog. Because they do call, rightly or wrongly, and even if you
do still have a chance of making the money, you are clearly
surrendering a lot of equity when you are called and lose.

yeah i get called by pocked deuces. fucking idiots.

get SNGPT and play around with it a bit.
you'd be surprised.
or if you can't afford to shell out that kinda money.... get a bit of
paper, learn how ICM works, and then do some calculations. again you'll be
surprised (if you actually manage to do the math right).
spoiler: it's the correct play to push every single hand in the situation
as described if someone calls with 5% of their hands (AJs+, AKo, JJ+).
don't wanna actually figure out at which point exactly it isn't profitable
anymore, but really there's no point to it either. it's unlikely you know
your opponent's calling range well enough to make any meaninful
calculations.

actually it's profitable to call with JJ+ in this situation, so 1.8% of
the time.

No, they can call with AA or KK.
And cripple you and have a monster lead.

HOWEVER, you do it every hand to people with close stacks, they look at a
near lock on first as a good payoff to risk third place money.

Word of advice.

It's not good having players like you at the table. For one, it
tightens them up when playing against you, not wanting to beat you.
This is a big negative.

It's better to have players gunning for you and disliking you, for
these players will chase just to get the satisfaction of drawing out or
beating you. This is a BIG POSITIVE.

Indeed. Santa will NOT be busy this year! I railed you for while today and saw
some very questionable play and comments.  $50 PS MTTs used to be much more
civil.

I usually don't let chat bother me, but when one or two players can actually get
2-3 other players to join in on the hate talk, that disturbs me.

So I turned tattle tale and turned in the one player in question who refused to
leave the table after getting knocked out, instead choosing to stay on and
berate me and call me names. The least I could do was get his chat revoked,
right?

Not so:
Hello misst74,
Thank you for taking the time to bring this to our attention.
I have looked over the chat logs, and agree that some of this player'sremarks
were inappropriate.
Our goal at PokerStars is to be a fun place to play, where everyone can feel
comfortable. I have sent this player a warning asking that he/she refrain from
this type of behavior in the future. If this warning goes unheeded, chat
privileges will be revoked.

Soooo my reply:

Jeny,

I'm extremely disappointed. As a known female player, I find it regretful that
PokerStars finds that being called a "cunt" is excusable with a warning.

My apologies for misunderstanding your site's chat abuse rules.

Sincerely,

Tanya Peck

For the person to be let off with a "warning" is completely inadequate, and
entirely ridiculous.
FWIW, having been very upset recently myself at something similar, I just
turned off chat. It will remain off, at least until I go up about three
levels.
Spectator chat, especially from those just eliminated, is of course
generally the most offensive.

Wow,  I missed that one. It was definitely a rowdy table. So how did you end up
in the two $50s?

19th place in the hating one and 78th or so in the other one. Cashed for a
whopping $147, lol

Let me translate that for you...

"We looked up this player's records and found that he generates a lot of
rake for us. We didn't want to scare him off to another site, so we gave
him a warning instead. Please understand the risk we are taking here by
reprimanding one of our rake generating, important players."

You cracked me up, literally, I was just saying that he KNEW I was FEMALE, not
that I'm a "well known female poker player"

LOL, but I'm laughing.

WRONG! We're all adults, right? So what if someone's calling you bad
names. Is it going to kill you? No, it's not.

Personally, I don't think there is anything lower than a supposed
adult "running to tell the teacher" over something someone says in a
fucking online poker chat box.

Grow up.

Did you pull your money out?

The sites need to learn that they aren't a card room, they're a piece of
software. Random, arbitrary rule enforcement is idiot policy.

I think this story says negative thinks about me, but I'm going to tell
it anyway.

About 2 years ago, I was playing Omaha online. I hit a draw on the
river, and my opponent starting giving me a ton of shit about it. I
was actually a small favorite when the money went in, but he didn't see
it that way. So on and on he went about what a huge donkey I was.

It made me want to beat the guy. A lot.

So, I took his stack him again a few hands later and then he left the
table. And I followed him to a lower stakes NLHE game. And I broke
him on that table.

Then he left and went to a .01/0.2 NLHE game. And I followed him. And
I took his stack again. Then he bought in for something odd, like
$1.38. And I broke him again. He left the table. It was one of the
most satisfying moments I've ever had in poker.

I'd like to think I've grown up a bit since then. Although I wasn't
playing badly, I let emotion dictate my behavior.

That you're making this post means it's getting to you, why care?
Turn your chat off and play without the distraction.
If mostly nameless and faceless people youre never going to meet want to rag on
you,let them.

How the heck do you turn off the chat function in a live game inside the casino?
