Subject: Chat suspension ruling on PS

here is an interesting situation that happened on PS regarding chat.

background, my pet peeve online is dipshits that either dont pay
attention that the tournament is starting or that the break has ended
and sit there like pithed zombies while precious time ticks off.

when the 3rd person in the first orbit times out - over 3 mins wasted -
i have had enough and type "goddamned motherfuckers". another guy at
the table was also showing his displeasure. of course the "offensive"
part is automatically edited by PS chat censor into stars. i knew this
and it was my intent to show my displeasure with this stupidity without
actually putting curse words on the screen. i did not type the comment
in a way to circumvent the censoring.

later i get an email telling me my chat is suspended for 30 days. a few
rounds of email with support, who were very patient in discussing it
with me, explained to me that they have access to what was actually
typed in the chat logs and a suspension can be based on what you
actually typed, rather than what was displayed.

fair enough i guess. i always thought if you typed "bullshit" and it
appeared as "bull****", nothing could happen. but if you typed "bull sh
it", you were over the line. apparently i was wrong.

so i asked the question, "what if i actually typed the stars and typed
"god****ed mother****ers" ? the answer was that based on my intent i
could still be suspended even though i censored the letters myself.

just a heads up to anyone who might be tempted to curse thinking you
will be safely censored.

No, you didn't. That was just something I threw in that I find is getting
a little out of hand these days. Not to say that you are the culprit.

First, why even do this? The people you are cursing at are not back yet,
so they won't see your displeasure anyway, only the people who are back,
who you are not mad at, will see it. Second, why not be civil? Why curse
at the poker table? What does it accomplish? Also, some people will
NEVER see your chat anyway. I keep mine on the stats tab, and have no
idea usually if somebody is chatting to me. Personally, I'm getting
really tired of people these days who curse constantly, fuck this fuck
that, it gets really old.

i disagree here.
i'm really against censorship of anything (which is why i got here in the
first place). and i'm pretty sure we've all heard and read it all
before.... i can see some people getting offended, but really i don't
think it's that big of a deal.
when you hear someone cursing while walking down the street do you tell em
to stop ?

Stars is testing a feature at the play tables where you can hit a button and
page a "moderator" when chat issues arise. Look for it soon at the real
money tables.

Stars will suspend your chat for anything even remotely offensive if it is
reported to them. And frankly, I think that's just plain bull****.

I always thought that the auto****** feature they had each time you cursed took
the place of banning or disabling. In other words, I thought you were allowed to
curse all you want but it does not matter because the ******** would just take
care of it. Thanks for the warning.

After an opponent with the avatar of a mean-looking black man rubbed in a
big hand over me, I typed the following:

"STFU, Eight Ball"

Lost my chat for 30 days.

Personally, I think they should make the filter optional to all players.
I really like to see people get irate over stupid stuff like that. It
makes me laugh. :)

Jerkoff is another one that won't get censored. Feel free to put that
