Hey Everyone,

Has anyone played the dailies at Caesars lately? Can you tell me the
times they are playing, plus the buy-in and chip count? How does that
compare to the Noon and 8PM at Venetian?

I'll be in Vegas Friday - Monday. Probably going to play in the UPC at
Binion's on Saturday. Oliver, Quiet Lion... anyone playing UPC this
weekend?

Thanks in advance for the tourney info...
PokerManiac.

Stay away from Binions' tournaments. $150 buyin and $50 goes towards
the rake. Ridiculous.

I Just got back from Vegas this evening and I played the noon Caesers twice...to
no avail... Ill save my bad beat stories for another post....

The buy in was $80 for 1500 chips and 1 optional add on of 3000 chips for
$50....Felt it was a bit silly, could have just done a $130 buyin for 4500
chips....

So tournaments that pay in chips skirt a W2G? Sweet. When I first
started playing recently I was surprised that the W2G threshold was so
low. You don't have to win much to collect one.

i believe if you win more than $599, a canadian is supposed to fill out the form
and is with held 30%. This is claimed by filing a US tax return when tax season
is upon us. My can. friends who cashed the wsop will fill out a 2006 tax form
come spring of 2007. You can do this yourself, hire an accountant or there are
specialized collection services(but they take 5% for the service).

I played a couple of tournaments at Caesars in September. Below is an
excerpt from my trip report with tournament structure details. Notice
that antes kick in in the third level. Entry with optional rebuy was
in the area of $150. They seemed to run it a couple of times per day.
They also ran a less expensive tournament that was faster. I was not
entirely satisfied with the Caesars tournament and will give the V,
Orleans or elsewhere a shot during my next visit. You'll probably find
further details at allvegaspoker.com.

Poker: I've been a competent vp player for years, but in February I
dipped my toes into the live poker waters. I made the move to live
poker reluctantly as it just seemed too hip for me. I am not exactly a
hip dude. I am the lemming that had better things to do. I started
with limit HE and in the last few months have moved on to cash and
tournament NLHE.

I've enjoyed it all and made a little money while learning. As a
newb, I couldn't realistically ask for much more, but I am at that
unfortunate stage of my poker education where I realize the mistake I
have made a second after I have made it. It's a little frustrating.

I fit 2 NLHE tournaments at Caesars into my schedule. I have had some
success with tournaments, but I crapped out this trip. I put myself in
tough short stack positions relatively early in both tournaments and
was knocked out by the end of the third round. My own fault on both
occasions. I made a nice comeback in the first tournament, but some
idiot called my top pair top kick push with an inside straight draw and
an under pair. 6 outs and the guy catches two of them. There was a
lot of poor play at these tournaments, and I do not entirely exclude
myself in that description.

I did like the 40 minute levels for these tournaments. 40 minutes felt
absolutely luxurious compared to the 15 and 20 minute levels I have
played in my other tournaments. Buy in and 1 rebuy (1500/3000) before
the end of the second level. Blinds at 25/50, 50/100, 100/200/25,
200/400/50, 400/800/100, 600/1200/100, 1000/2000/200, 2000/4000/400,
3000/6000/500, 5000/10000/1000, 10000/15000/2000, 15000/30000/5000,
20000/40000/5000.

I prefer the Venetian 8pm tourney over the 7pm Caesar tourney because of the
slower blind structure and the method of payment (casino chips rather than cash
with IRS W2-G form).

As for the UPC at Binion's, note that the tournament schedule has changed.  $340
buy-in on Fridays and Sundays, $660 buy-in on Saturdays.  WGN SuperStation is
currently only airing the $660 buy-in events.  There is no word yet from the
producer where or when the $340 buy-in events will air.

I am not scheduled to be in Vegas until the weekend of December 15-17.

Oliver, Dianne and I will be in Vegas December 14 through 20 ... likely at
the Venetian most of the time. Easier to spot her with all that red hair.
Say hello ... "pickle" will do the job for both of us!

Hope we get to say hello ... and to anyone else too.

I perfer the Venetian. Blinds are a little bit better (although both
are quite good), but the Venetian pays in casino chips while at Caesars
they pay you in cash and make you fill out an IRS form (or pay tax on
the spot if you are Canadian like me).

Just curious, but isn't there a treaty between the US and Canada that would make
a Canadian exempt from paying the 30% withholding? And aren't gambling winnings
tax free in Canada on top of this?

From what I've heard, they have to pay the tax, then they can file for a refund
at the end of the year.
