Subject: Anyone for reviving RGP tournaments?

Anyone interested in reviving this tradition? Stars, unfortunately,
doesn't let you create cash games, but it does tournaments.

One major issue would be if someone is already planning on reviving
these.

But if not, the other main issue is what should it be, when is the
best time for it, and what kind of buyin is appropriate?

Games are Hold'em, Omaha, Omaha/8, Stud, Stud/8, Razz,
HOSE, and HORSE. Structures are fixed, PL, or NL. Buyins
are from $5 to $500. Heads-up matches are also available.

Times are pretty much anything, but people on RGP have
pretty wildly varying schedules. I don't know whether the
concept was abandoned for any particular reason.

Buyin also seems to be important. Too small and nobody
cares enough to play for real, and too large, and people
will avoid being donors of large amounts of money. For
my part, I can't imagine paying more than $20 to play a
bunch of people I'd avoid playing cash games with.

There are some times that also are not good for many RGP'ers,
like when the Sunday Million or other big events are playing.
So the question becomes whether it's best to have a regular
event at a set time every week, rotate it a bit to avoid picking
times someone will never be able to play, or set up an advance
schedule of some kind like the RGP Challenge events.

Setting up events with fairly standard structures on Stars seems
like the easiest way to go, but maybe someone else has a better
idea. I don't see the point in getting all that fancy about it.

Something that I really liked when I first started playing and reading RGP
was that the RGP games were cheap and the regular RGPers played in them.
They were a fun time, and for $10 or $20 I could play someone that I would
normally never get a chance to play in the course of my regular game play.
I saw them as practice games, not expecting to cash, but looking to study
other players and improving my play.

That was lost in the last few series that were run. I don't have a
solution for it, but my recommendation would be to do whatever can bring
back that type of play. I wouldn't recommend having a leaderboard or
points system at all. Just keep the games for fun and make them for the
social event that they once were.

Like...a $5 double stacked event with 30 minute blinds starting at 5pm on
a Friday evening...not such a good idea.

Absolutely a great idea.  I'm fairly new to RGP, so I don't know how the old
games were, but one of the reasons I read and post here is to learn, and improve
my game.  Much better to learn by playing against some of the people I would
normally ask questions of.

I'm interested, but as with other posters from the UK - depends on the
start time.

Sounds like a good idea to me. $10 - $30 buy in also sounds fine. Some tournies
that don't start at 3am in UK would be nice.

I was actually thinking about this today. I'd like to start a couple of
events myself. If they are successful, we can make it a regular thing.
Stars of course.

Well, why don't we have an early game and a late game rotating, so most
people can play sometimes.

$50 to $200 buyin for NL holdem, $10 to $30 buyin for any other games, and I'll
be interested, if the time is right.

I doubt you would generate signifcant interest if it costs more than $10
or $20. You might be able to get one table.

I agree on HORSE events. I'd kind of like to play those with people who
know how to, to at least some extent, before I play them for real money.
I may want to make a practice of playing the higher buyin events at
some point, but at present, I don't even trust myself beyond the $20-30
level, and even there, I think I'm probably -EV. Either I'm too tight or
too donkified. Either way, I'd welcome practice with the don^H^H^Hfine
people of rgp.

I think you may be disappointed by the level of play :)

You think? No need to think. I stopped playing them when they moved to fulltilt,
just never got along with it but they used to be fun when they were a $10 buy in
and well worth that just for the entertainment value.
