Capri bakery in Dearborn. I have had Chicagos best, I have had New Yorks
best (WAY better than Chicagos best) and have to say MY best is BEST!

Some people dislike it, some swear by it:

Northlake Tavern (If there's such a thing as a "Northwest Pizza" this is
it.)

(Tacky little tavern under the ship canal bridge near the University of
Washington. UW students are the main clientele. I think it's great when
baked right.)

I haven't been to any of the famous pizza
places in NYC, so they could be better, but my
picks are:

1. North Beach Pizza in San Francisco (often great;
sometimes not).

2. Pizzaria Uno, Boston & SF (a chain, yes, but always tasty)

3. Brick Oven Pizza, Austin TX

4. Some Pizza joint in Minneapolis Minn that my wife's family
took me to. Don't remember the name, but it was really good.

5. Pizza Haven, Bellevue WA (1960's) childhood memories.
Chain went downhill later, or maybe my taste developed.

Almost forgot: Pizza Antica in Santana Row, San Jose CA.
Near the top of my list.

I believe it was a place just inside the Chinatown section of San
Fran. I forget the exact location or the name of the place as I was
still an alcohol consumer at the time. :) I wasn't so drunk that I
didn't recognize a great pizza though.

Worst pizza is one I got at a place in Westfield, NJ. It wasn't a
chain restaurant but it was an established, busy place that identified
as a pizza place. I'll settle for about anything when I'm hungry but
I threw that pizza out. That says something cuz throwing out pizza is
like saying no to a bj, it's just not done. :)

The original Valentino's Special in downtown Lincoln, Nebraska. Absolutely
the best texture and tasting pizza dough I've ever had, and great sauce. We
would drive the 50 miles from Omaha to Lincoln just for the pizza. We'd get
2 or 3 half-baked and take them back home and freeze them for later.
Although, quality sure dropped off the last 20-30 years as they started
opening additional restaurants.

Second place was Gino's East deep dish sausage pizza in Chicago. A
cornbread type crust with the sausage as a flattened patty across the entire
top. These slices are almost a meal each. I can pack away a lot of food,
but two of these slices and I'm full.

Something in there twigged me to a long-lost memory -- the Lido Cafe in

Papa Benito's in Ypsilanti Michigan.

I was working there so at the end I could make it the way I like it.
I don't go over with the hole rolling thing so I could have thick
crust with lots of air bubbles formed in the oven.

No, but the place Ron Goldman used to work, people used to come in and
steal the silverware (after the OJ trial of course). I can't remember any

It's been a while for me, but not that long, I still have friends in
Brentwood (at least their parents still live there, and I see them when
they come down to visit). I grew up there in the 70s.

Ok, getting weird now.

I grew up in Brentwood in the 70s. We lived south of San Vicente, north
of Montana, next to the country club, on Burlingame. I was born in 64, so
we MAY be of the same era.

Oh this is getting super weird now.

I know a guy who knew a guy whose relative knew a guy who used to drive
through Brentwood every few months. Amazing.

Don't know where you are from Me, but Brentwood is a really small place.
Steam and I might actually know each other (probably went to the same
schools, and we seem to be close to the same age).

I still like Papa John's, thin crust, with green olives and pineapple. I
know it's a chain store, but it's GOOD!

I like PJ's also. Papa Ginos is uasually pretty good for a chain also.
Another Localized shop is pizzeria Regina in Bawstons North End, YUM. You
need at least 1 drop of Italian blood to walk around in that area ! If you
don't have one and u are a good guy we can hook u up.

Giordano's in Chicago. I consider their spinach pie the best pizza on the
planet.

They have pizza in Chicago? You're kidding, right?

Or are you referring to those massive sort of open-faced strombolis they throw
together in cake pans?

Anyway, wherever you are, and whatever kind of pizza you like, IMO, the best
pizza is made at home, either in the oven or on the grill.
