Subject: Stimulus idea

Instead of giving $600 tax rebate checks, why not give everybody a $600
gift card? You HAVE to spend that. I've read in a number of places that
one of the failings of the 2008 stimulus package was that a lot of people
used the money to pay household bills, put in savings, etc. Gift cards
would seem to be an easy way around that.

i still like the idea of eliminating payroll taxes for a couple
months. instant money in your pocket.
but then the guvment wouldn't be able to get their fucking hands on it
and waste it, so they won't do that.
of course, the best solution would be for the crooks on capital hill
to cut the fucking spending.

Money in your pocket isn't necessarily a stimulus, if you take it from
your pocket and put it in your bank account. That's the point of my gift
card idea. You HAVE to spend it.

It would be a lot more secure to deposit $600 for everyone on Pokerstars.

This is actually a really good Idea. NH sir. I see problems arise in
theft and fraud if these are sent in the mail. perhaps a way around that
problem could open up some possibilities.

I don't know how many of the 300 million Americans actually pay taxes,
I'm guessing half?
Thats about 5500 bucks each, 11000 per couple. THAT would stimulate
some spending.

Works out out to 15 k per couple.

So, according to some idiots, you should be able to deduct the interest
you pay on these bills, if in fact you pay interest on them (which you
probably don't).

That actually kind of makes sense. My question is which company gets

Visa? Mastercard? Bestbuy? Should there be some sort of lottery?
