Nevada's statewide gaming revenues
http://gaming.nv.gov/documents/pdf/mrroct08.pdf
endured a decline of 22.3 percent in October, from $1.165 billion to $904.9
million. This is the largest single-month decline in Nevada history.
Gaming tax collections also fell 21 percent during the same month.
In addition, gaming revenues plummeted nearly 26 percent on the Las Vegas
Strip alone, exceeding May's 15 percent drop.

Which explains all the discount promotions Iand free-stay offers I've been
getting from the major strip casinos every week. Hard to work up much
sympathy for Vegas when you consider how they gouge tourists during their
good times. If this keeps up, look for some poker rooms to close.

You don't know the half of it, Mike. Hotel occupancy rate (with the
exception of the two months after 9/11/2001) had been at 95% + until about 6
months ago when they plunged to 88%. The latest figure I read was 76%. For
a tourism driven town, we're kinda screwed right now. Watch teh Casino
stocks, they tell the story, too.

$200 FP and 4 nights at Encore in January. I would have thought only
rollers would be getting offers so soon after the opening. I hate to
think good thoughts, but maybe there will be opportunities here.
