It's not a question of "if" Israel and Iran will get in a shooting war. It's a question of "when". Israel is completely surrounded and out numbered 500 to 1 by muslims who have sworn to destroy it and slaughter all the Jews. Muslims who constantly call for their followers to murder Israeli men, women and children by any means possible, including suicide bombing. And they tell these followers that if they die murdering Jews they will go to heaven and have 72 virgins. The muslims worked with Hitler in WWII to murder Jews. The muslims launched the "six day war" against Israel in the 1960s. They've sent hundreds of terrorists and suicide bombers to murder Israeli women and children. They attacked and murdered Israeli athletes at the Olympics. Israel offered them their own country at the Camp David meetings in the 1990s. They rejected the offer and chose to send in more terrorists and suicide bombers. Hezbollah crossed the border from Lebanon in to Israel and attacked, killed and kidnapped Israeli citizens. The Israelis pulled their people out of Gaza and gave it to the Palestinians to promote peace. Hamas rejected peace and used Gaza as a base to fire thousands of rockets in to Israeli cities and towns. Both Hamas and Hezbollah have repeatedly vowed to destroy Israel and murder all the Jews. Iran is developing nuclear weapons and their leader has repeatedly said there can never be peace with Israel. He has repeatedly and publicly vowed to destroy Israel and drive all of the Jews in to the sea. America just elected an ultra liberal, retreat-and-surrender commander in chief who spent 20 years attending a church that preached anti-Semitic ideology. Then lied about it. So put yourself in Israel's shoes for a minute. If you were surrounded and greatly out numbered by an enemy who says there can never be peace between you. Who has repeatedly vowed to destroy your country and slaughter every man, woman and child. Who has attacked your citizens repeatedly on your own soil with suicide bombers. Who has launched a war of invasion against you. And has fired thousands of rockets in to your towns and cities. And now this enemy is on the verge of developing a nuclear weapon. And your main ally just elected a weak, inexperienced leader who says he's going to cut and run out of the area as soon as he can. What would you do? Irish Mike

Today, i spoke with a guy who said Obama was more experienced than Bush was at the beginning of his presidency because as a Senator he saw more of the global issues and knew more than a governor would. I tried to explain that Bush's dad was president but that didn't make a difference. When did Israel become part of the United States of America? Israel has a problem, do they? Let them deal with it. I am sick of America putting itself in daily jeapordy so some pissant country can hold onto a piece of crappy land. Clearly, the cost/ benefit ratio of our relationship with Israel sucks. Our support of Israel is the worst foreign policy decision in the history of this country. Can I ask you something? Why do you give a flying crap about Israel? Do you think it's worth the security of this country? Is it worth thousands of American lives? Because that's what happening. What does Israel give us? An ally in the Middle East? And why do we need an ally in the Middle East? Because our support of Israel!!!!!! Do you see the problem here? Dump Israel, and the security of our country improves immediately. Hell, even Osama Bin Laden says he'll call off the jihad if we changed our foreign policy with respect to Israel. Dump Israel, and Arab countries - the key to all that oil - will be our buddies. So, Irish Mike, are you an American? Do you love this country? If so, WHY IN THE HELL do you support our foreign policy on Israel? Would you die for Israel, Mike? Would you die so that some foreign citizen can build a shack in the desert? That's what the purpose of the U.S. is? To support Israel at all possible costs, even if it causes enormous reprocussions? Can I ask, Irish Mike, why do you like Israel so much? Because you're a good Republican, and that's the way you are supposed to think? Do you ever think a little deeper about this issue? Lastly, my comments have nothing to do with liking Israel or not. This is simply a cost/benefit analysis. And anyone with half a brain can see the cost far outweighs the benefit. JG

> Why do you give a flying crap about Israel? --"Americans have a strong preference for free societies over tyrannies and understand that the real underdog in the Middle East is the tiny state of Israel struggling to survive in a sea of medieval hate." We share values with Israel that we don't share with arab nations: women's rights, gay rights (Israel that has annual gay pride days), "Israel has an independent and highly liberal judiciary", "Israel has a leftist press", "Israel has been governed more by leftist, even socialist, parties than by rightist ones." --"Israel has missiles capable of reaching as far as the former Soviet Union, it possesses a nuclear arsenal of hundreds of weapons, and it has cooperated with the U.S. military-industrial complex with research and development for new jet fighters and anti-missile defense systems. Plus, Israel's intelligence service has assisted the U.S. in intelligence gathering and covert operations."

Nasser kicked out the UN border force in the Sinai and mobilized, then Israel preempted (June 1967). Sadat attacked Israel in the Yom Kipper War in 1973. Despite losing a tactical decision, the attack gave Sadat enough credibility to enage in bilateral peace talks later that decade. Neither Sadat or Nasser would fit under any definition of a modern Islamist. More like Pan-Arab socialists. Sadat was killed in 1980 by nascent Islamists.

So it can hardly be described as "nascent" in 1980. Nor could their lunatic principles be correctly described as such as early as, hummm, I'm going with like 870 AD?
