I don't like to buy DVDs because just about every thing is available for down load from the internet. So when I do buy a DVD, it's one I know I'll watch more than once. I have 152 DVDs in my personal library but many of them are Irish or Irish-related which I won't bother listing. The following are my top 50 favorites, listed in alphabetical order. You'll note that several of them are HBO series and that two (Appaloosa and True Blood) are not yet available for purchase. I'll buy them as soon as they become available on DVD. Now I'm not saying these are all great movies, I'm just saying they're my favorites. If you've got a similar list of favorites, and don't mind posting, I'd ld like to see it. Aliens Appaloosa Black Hawk Down Braveheart Cincinnati Kid Comanche Moon Dark of the Sun Dead Man's Walk Deadwood Seasons One - Three Devil's Own, The Dog's Of War Flesh And Blood Gangs Of New York Getaway, The Gladiator Godfather Godfather II Heat Highlander Jackal, The Last Of The Mohicans, The Lethal Weapon Lonesome Dove Long Riders Lucky You No Mercy NYPD Blue, Seasons One to Four Payback Pitch Black Platoon Predator Pride And Prejudice (Fuck you, I'm a sensitive guy) Rambo IV Road Warrior Rome Seasons One and Two Rounders Saving Private Ryan Searchers, The Sharpe Collection 1 - 15 Soldier Sopranos Seasons One - Six Streets Of Laredo Tears Of The Sun Terminator True Blood Season One Unforgiven Waterworld We Were Soldiers Once Wild Bunch Zulu Irish Mike

It was worse than finding out there was no Santa. Worse than walking in on your mom getting it on with the mailman. This was tragedy of Epic Proportion... and it still burns me to this very day. aaaargh. BTW - you damn well better have Goodfellas on that list. TOP OF THE LIST pal. So get a move on that. chop chop.

I mean come on, Gangs of New York but not Goodfellas? Where's your credibility now? Well, you've got a point. "Good Fellas" was definitely an exceptional film and I do have a copy in my DVD library. However, "Gangs of New York" was about the Irish, where as "Goodfellas" only had one Irish character, played by Robert Deniro. Therefore, "Gangs" made my best 50 list. Actually, I thought Joe Peshi's (sp?) best gangster role was in "Casino" where he played a character based on real life gangster Tony Spilottro (sp?). Bottom-line, the Irish factor aside, "Goodfellas" would have made the list. Irish Mike

"Lucky You" was pretty awful. Trite script, mediocre acting and the same old "me-and-my-daddy-are-poker-rivals" theme. On the other hand, it did get the poker part right and they used all of the old Bellagio poker room furniture so at least made the poker set look real. I liked Troy and Bourne Ultimatum (plus I read the books). The others on your list I've seen but didn't care for them that much. Seriously here is one to add. Breaking Bad. It is an AMC series. Simply the best commercial series of the year. You can find it online, or on dvd.

Well bucko, for the record, I'm not one of those guys with closets full of guns and an NRA sticker on the bumper of his truck. I own one gun, which is usually enough if you are proficient. I don't own a truck, I'm not a hunter and I have never been a member of the NRA. In fact, I will only fish at lodges that have a strict catch-and-release policy. On the other hand, how good can a movie be if no one gets shot? Irish Mike

No list, but I just finished watching a great documentary on Hunter Thompson called Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson. It just came out on DVD in November. It's a must see for any Thompson fan, and will also appeal to anyone interested in American counterculture during the 60's and 70's. http://www.metacritic.com/video/titles/gonzo
