Why is it that in every subject that comes up, mysteriously, you have
interviewed 'hundreds of subjects' related to the post with your law
firm.

I smell a fucking credibility gap here.

There's no doubt that smoking has detrimental health effect. I don't
see anyone disputing that. But you militant dipshits with your
endless rants and horror stories are getting old. Find some new
material to preach about and make yourself feel good.

Or, even better, STFU and live a little.

Dickwad.

He may be full of it about the interviews, but the assertion that
smokers go quickly is patently absurd. Cancer tends to be a long,
drawn-out illnessm, and treatment is expensive. I know first hand,
having had family members and friends die of the disease, not to
mention a few survivors.

If you're the face of the gleeful non-smoking militias... it's high
time (no pun intended) I consider taking up smoking.

I'd rather die with the self-destructive than 'thrive' with the
impotent holier-than-thou finger pointing tards.

Believe that.

Shit I read here actually has me ashamed to be a non-smoker. How much
is a pack of lucky strikes these days? Nevermind. I'm off to the
Mobil station.

That is complete crap. And for every dopey study you site there are
100X others contrary. My mother died from lung cancer, she smoked for
30+ years. Lost productivity alone, not to mention quality of life. I
had a front row seat to 6 smoking relative's death, so far, and not
one was quick and painless. Stupid, short sighted, selfish people
smoke.

I was out walking the dogs yesterday and passed an office building.
Idiots were on the fire escapes to get a smoke fix. I'm all for
thinning the heard so yes please do smoke. It is sooo sexy.

I would hire a fat person over a smoker. And don't think we don't know
who you are. Your teeth, fingers, the stench. Show me just one proud
smoker? I'm so glad I smoke because I like wasting money? I'm glad I
smoke so my grandchildren avoid me? I'm so glad I smoke so my co-
workers think less of me? Delusional fucks.

And why wouldn't I vote for Obama? I was stupid enough to vote for
Bush!

Well, there is no dismissing the trauma to family and friends who
watch someone dying of cancer.

I have had that same experience as well.

But try to put your emotions aside for the moment.

How did the medical costs of the people you speak of compare to the
medical costs of someone spending time in a nursing home, for a decade
or so?

Do you want to quit? Then read the book I linked to earlier.
Especially instructive is a section about cutting back, boy oh boy did
I torture myself for years with that method. Sometimes it is not will
power, it is knowing HOW to quit, that was my problem until I started
reading the book.

The part about how many days and hours I have saved of my life, it
comes from some rough estimate of five minutes of life saved for every
cigarette not smoked, it came with the counter.

Quit giving money to people who are killing you.

Before you get pissed about THIS post, please read my other.

WHO IN THE FUCK DECIDED HOW MUCH TIME YOU SAVED IN YOUR LIFE?

What if you get hit by an F-18 crashing through your roof tonight while
you're sleeping? Should that have *really* happened 2 Weeks, 2 Days, 19
hours and 35 minutes before tonight?

First of all > I agree with you here but .. people need to trick
themselves and then they need to reinforce it to themselves by trying to
force it on other people

brainwash others

Congrats. I wish I could quit. AND Don't all of you Anti and former
smokers tell me I can, all it takes is will-power.

I WANT to quit, but with my other health problems, my anxiety attacks and
the 23 different drugs I take daily smokes are starting to taste worse, I'm
burning myself on my fingers and forearms and don't notice right away, but
my DOCTORS keep telling me to just "keep cutting back" DO NOT QUIT COLD
TURKEY and don't use the patch or gum. I am glad to report I'm down to
right around one pack (plus a few smokes) per day. That's down from over
3.5 packs per day 2 years ago.

I'll quit, and I am quitting, it's just going to take another year or two,
but I'll be glad when I do. Truly!

Give us twenty years and we'll have nano-machines scrubbing out our
lungs and cardiovascular system. No more artery plaque, no more lung soot!

USA USA USA USA!

Cheers.

Heh

My first reaction was to call you a Liar.
But then.

I think that if you are stupid enough to vote for Obama in the first
place, you are also stupid enough to NOT vote for him because he
occasionally puffs on a fag.

Contrary to popular myth, smokers do not cause an extra strain on
medical costs.
They die very suddenly without a whole lot of medical costs.

Contrast that to the Health Nuts.
They do everything they can to prolong their lives.

They die in a nursing home after years and years of slowly but
steadily declining health, in their 90's.

Ask yourself the cost of keeping them alive for 10+ years in a nursing
home.

Hundreds of thousands of dollars spent on each one of them to stave
off the inevitable end of us all.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Good Health is merely the slowest way of dying.

What?

I work at a firm that handles cancer cases. Lung Cancer is one of the
main types of cases we handle.

I have interviewed hundreds of lung cancer patients. In their homes,
laying on medical beds in the dinning room so everyone can keep an eye on
them. SOMETIMES they go quick, but mostly is drags out for months and
months with a TON of medical bills.

Before settlements are distributed we have to 'settle' up with Medicaid.
The bills are NOT small.

My job occasionally takes me to some of those homes. What a shame to see
those folks sitting around in their own shit and piss without a clue as
to where (or who) they are. I pray that if ever I'm in that condition
that someone will have the compassion to just put a pillow over my face
and send me off.

I hate to burst your bubble but all smokers don't die quickly from heart
attacks. I had the sad experience of watching a woman die who had been a
smoker for a good part of her life before she finally quit. She developed
emphysema and spent years in and out of hospitals with tubes in her nose,
hauling around an oxygen bottle and gasping and fighting for every breath.
I wouldn't wish the last years of her life on any one. I've also seen
smokers die from lung cancer and it's impossible for me, as a non-smoker, to
imagine that any pleasure they could have gotten from sucking toxins in to
their lungs could ever be worth the miserable, degrading and painful way
they died.

It's as simple as classical vs operant conditioning!

My mother smoked even when she was pregnant with me. Nobody told her,
few knew of the complications. My mother smoked when breast feeding
me. Smoking was fashionable. My father and nearly all my realitives
smoked and all thought it was so funny to see a three year old taking
puffs from a cigarette left in an ashtray. Hell, even the cartoons
featured cigarettes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oc1TBBp4dC8

The nuns tired of suspending me for smoking gave me a discreet place
to smoke. I was given small amounts of money for running to the store
for cigarettes, enough trips and I could buy my own pack. The store
owners never blinked about selling smokes to a seven year old.

Warnings were put on cigarette packages, not to dissuade people from
smoking, but to be able to deny responsibility. The dangers of smoking
were debated, the science was not in. "We do not believe smoking is
addictive." Smoking in the movies, smoking on TV. Doctors recommending
the cooling affect of menthol.

Even today the media is full of nicotine commercials. Do you know
that the rate of successful quiting using nicotine lozengers, patches
or gums is no better than cold turkey quitting? Phillip Morris gets
tax breaks for show commercials that are suppose to discourage
smoking, those commercials are all softball messages that do nothing
for quitting; and commercials that do truely discourage are banned
from the airways as being too distasteful.

Goverment has no incentive to stop smoking. The tax money generated
by smoking taxes are substantial. Smokers die younger and faster than
the rest of the population, therby giving relief to Social Security
and state funded medical care.

I tried to quit smoking many times and always relapsed. I did not
know how to quit. I have been to classes, have read books and opened
myself to much input on to how to quit. There is no profit in having
some one really quit.

The best help I got was reading this book: http://whyquit.com/NTAP_large_print_212_pages.pdf
.

I now understand that I will never be a non-smoker, but I always will
be a nicotine addict recovering.

As far as the damage done to me by years of smoking, this something I
cannot change. The best I can do is not do further damage and allow my
body to repair what it can. Just like the alcholic, I need to know
what I can change and what I can't.

Lastly, I understand odds and ratios.

Yes, it does. This woman has got more mental and emotional problems than

her.

Well done, seriously. Isn't it about time though that you started thinking
of yourself as a non-smoker rather than an ex-smoker?

Alternatively, if you find dwelling on the detail motivates you, you could
move over here. You'd have saved yourself an extra $1000 if you moved here
when you first quit.

Yes, any you brag about it on this newsgroup every day. BTW, how do you
know you have saved "2 Weeks, 2 Days, 19 hours and 35 minutes of my life."?
How many years did you suck those cancer causing toxins in to your lungs?
How many tens of thousands of cigarettes did you smoke? What are the odds
you've done irreparable damage to your body or that you already have cancer
in the early , undetected stages? Since you insist on constantly sharing
this unsolicited information about your life with total strangers, I hope
you don't think these questions are too "personal".
