[Damn, I just typed this and then hit the back button on the keyboard,
so if it posts twice....]

Congrats Steam.

An interesting hand early on.

15/30 I think. Stacks about even.

I raise with KQ on button, Steam calls. Middle pair? Weak high cards?
Very weak ace?

Flop 10-K- something (8?)

I pot for 250 or so. Steam calls. At this point I have him on Q-J, K
with a weak kicker or a flopped set with the lop card on board. Slight
chance of a float with the Ace, maybe A-8.

Turn Q, so I have top two, but the Q is really a bad card. It doesn't
put me ahead of anything I wasn't already beating, and now J-9 has me,
A-J has me (although he would probably have RRd PF so that's
unlikely), and the set has me. Still, HU, have to get him out so I bet
pot of 720,
he calls. OK.

River J.

Board is 8-10-J-Q-K.

He puts me all in for 440 and has 60 left.

Call?

In a low buy-in donkament I call this all day. Top two HU is
obviously a monster and I'm getting just under 6-1. But here, I think
he's good enough to know that and to know that I know that, and so I
can't call, because he's expecting me to. But he knows that I know he
knows that, so that means that maybe he's taking a stab. But it's so
obvious I have big piece of that board, with a good chance that I have
the ace. So three levels down he's playing that I don't have an ace,
and I think I just went one level too many and outthought myself.

With more time to think, I think that I make the call (he said he had
QJ and I believe him), but I thought with 440 I could make a
comeback. And I did get it back to even before losing a big pot with
a rivered Aces up vs a turned gutshot that was well played. So the
hand didn't really determine the match, but still interesting.

Anyway, thoughts?

Congrats Steam.

You're correct. Bad planning.

I think the only way you should be betting that much on the turn is if you
plan on getting the rest in on the river. If you are truly trying to "get
him out" then you need to move in. If you are betting to try and fold to
a scary river card you bet much less than that, or check. If you bet 720
and fold for 440 I think that's just bad planning on your part, IMO.

I won't be able to pull that again any time soon.

i didnt think you were straight, i was hoping just a king, but a good
enough chance to put me on the straight anyways.
