I spent the day today at two Indian casinos in the Fresno, California area. I want to say, that if it's true our economy is in trouble, you sure wouldn't know that from the amount of people at both casinos today. It was a mob scene at both of them. All day, and then more people coming in in the evening. Wall to wall people, hard to walk around without bumping into people. It wasn't like there were any special events like music concerts or boxing matches. It was just a plain ordinary Sunday. Fresno is a pretty large town, surrounded by farming areas. A lot of the casino customers were Hispanic, which matches the area of course. No doubt many of these people work in farming. Well, if these people are struggling economically, they sure had money to burn today! And I'll tellya, almost EVERYONE plays those damn keno machines. It's the damndest thing you ever saw. They just love keno. The casinos I visited were Chuckchansi Gold, just about a half hour northeast, and then Table Mountain, which is in Friant, also northeast of Fresno. Both are relatively close to each other. Economic downturn, my ass! Vegas, eat your heart out! -Paul Popinjay

I remember when Table Mountain, was a one room bingo place. They have expanded it so many times, that I've lost count. You can barely find a parking place. You're totally correct about the Keno there. It's very popular. And this is going to make some people mad, but they have found that it's extremely popular with the "meth users". One of the big attractions to the game, is that you can play for just 5 cents a pop. Whenever they would run out of money, they would get the person next to them to hold their machine, then run around the casino looking for someone they knew whom they could borrow $1 from (or go around looking for credits someone left on a machine), then they would be back in action, until they ran out again, and repeat the process all over.
