All within the last month, there was the Regency in Laughlin, the Oasis in Mesquite, and now Fitzgerald's in Reno.

Hadn't been there in years, but the Fitz in Reno seemed a sad enterprise even then... Don't think it was a Barden property. Things are looking up, though. I just heard Golden Gate has sexy go go dancers. Wonder if they'll be dancing on the same counter where they serve the $1.99 shrimp cocktails. Isn't the Fitzgerald's closure temporary while they do a massive remodel? I had heard it was only going to be closed for a year or two or something like that. -- "Actually, I will read Jason's posts too. It is most likely NOT closed yet, althogh I've heard the same thing. He is still running TV spots for the OASIS here in LV. Anyone in or around Mesquite that can confirm that it is "actually" closed already? Rick "ADB DaVoice" Charles Who heard a new name will accompany the Oasis on re-open.

It's a phased shut down. They're delinquent on a loan and had to get permission from the lender for a temporary closure. They lost $900,000 recently and are trying to shift guests to the other properties while cutting payroll and other expenses. Apparently, Eureka is expanding in Mesquite and eating their lunch. --- looking for a better newsgroup-reader? - www.recgroups.com

I've stayed at the Oasis. I think it was $19 a night at the time, but they comped your room if you played a few hours of poker. Plus they'd give you a couple of buffet passes. The staff were all exceptionally friendly, like you were a guest in their home or something. My room wasn't anything special, but it was on the second floor overlooking the courtyard pool, which actually looked pretty nice lit up at night. It was a great place to spend a few days on a low budget.

During Jan Fishers' "Oasis Open" tournaments the rooms were $15, but comped if you played in the tourneys, and Bobby, Jan, Linda J., John Buchanan, and others (including me when I was up there) had pockets full of buffet passes, and would give you one for EVERY meal, if you so desired. You just had to use them 6 hours apart :) If, in fact, Oasis is gone, or even gone "as we knew it" it's a big loss for poker and poker players. Rick "ADB DaVoice" Charles

At least a casino isn't going to be littering the countryside with automobiles. We are about to fund the worst ecological disaster in history. Christ, what would it take to keep these job centers open? 10-20 million tops? Lets DO this!
